Maintaining communication with several teachers, each of who have between 125 and 155 students, can be a real challenge!  Middle level parents find that they must take more responsibility for initiating communication with the school.  In an effort to help our parents understand this process better, we have listed various communication channels available to them.

SCHOOL INITIATED COMMUNICATION:

THE PIRATE' PRIDE, our school newsletter will be sent via e-mail, or can be accessed on line at the LMS web site, each month.  It will contain information about upcoming events, activities, and important dates.

LMS WILL EMAIL through School Messenger: daily announcements, special events and weekly Student bulletins.

SCHOOL MESSENGER AUTOMATED VOICE CALL occasionally we will use an automated email text or voice recorded announcement that we generate to our parents primary phone.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT for LMS will be in August 30, 2012.  Back to School Night is for parents only and provides the opportunity to meet teachers and get an overview of their child’s academic program.  There will be short visits to each class for all parents from 6:00–8:00pm.

QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORTS will be sent home with students approximately seven days after the end of the quarter (nine week grading period).  Report card dates will be included in the school newsletter.  Some teachers give computerized progress reports to all students on a regular basis.  Parents of students who are having difficulty in a course will be contacted by the teachers.

LMS PARENT/STUDENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES will be held in the fall in October 2012.  Spring conferences dates will be announced later.  Conferences are held normally from 4:30–7:30pm. All parents and students will have an opportunity to meet with teachers during conferences.

HOMEWORK POSTING is available for students as a resource.  Go to http://schools.bvsd.org/p12/louisvillemiddle/hw/default.aspx

OTHER: Teachers make every attempt to notify parents when there has been a significant change in a student’s performance.  Teachers, counselors, and administrators may request a conference with a parent at any time.  Various positive communications such as postcards and letters may also be given or mailed to students and parents.

PARENT INITIATED COMMUNICATION:

PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS TO TEACHERS are welcomed any time a parent has a question or a concern regarding a student’s situation.  Teachers will make every effort to return these calls and e-mails within 48 hours.  A list of teacher voice mail extensions and e-mail addresses will be published in the newsletter.  LMS Main Office: 720-561-7400

CONFERENCES with a particular teacher or teachers can be requested by a parent at any time.  Every effort will be made to arrange these as soon as possible.  In order to request such a conference, parents can contact the teacher directly or ask the counselor to contact the teacher.

PARENT PORTAL ACCESS allows parents to view their student’s information directly through Infinite Campus.
